It’s been busy in our Pre-1st classroom. We have made new friends, learned classroom routines, shared our “hopes and dreams”, and generated classroom rules. We even met our new school pet, Buttons the bearded dragon. We are off to a great start!
Classroom Rules - (generated by the kids in Room 9)
1. Keep our things looking nice and beautiful.
2.Treat others they way you would want to be treated.
3.Take care of yourself.
Curriculum Night
Please join us for Curriculum Night on Tuesday, September 16th from 6:30 - 7:15. During this time I will share the Pre-1st curriculum, my teaching philosophy, our daily schedule and some things you can do at home to support your child’s learning. So that we can focus on these important topics, Curriculum Night is for parents only.

Parent Volunteers
If you are interested in volunteering in the classroom, please be sure to attend the upcoming mandatory Volunteer Orientation in the Nab Library. If you have not filled out a CORI form, please be sure to do so. Remember, you cannot volunteer in classroom without a cleared CORI on file. If you are interested in chaperoning a field trip you must complete the fingerprinting obligation (please refer to the district website.) We are looking forward to having you in the classroom!
Thank you…
A special thank you to those who were able to donate supplies to our classroom. Your donations of Clorox Wipers, napkins, paper towels, Twistables and paper towels were much appreciated!

- One way that students explored classroom materials was through Guided Discovery. During Guided Discovery, students learn how to properly use classroom materials such as pencils and erasers, glue sticks, Twistable crayons and pencils, scissors, stamps, etc.
- We have had lots of fun learning to read our classmates names in isolation and in text. Making "rainbow names'' reinforced patterns, how to use "drippy glue" correctly, and enhanced our fine motor skills (ripping and pasting small pieces of paper can be tricky.)
- Our Lively Letters practice continues as we use imagery and mnemonics to “train students in the critical skills of phonemic awareness, letter sound associations and the ability to decode (read) and encode (spell) words fluently.”
- Students are enjoying their “Read to Self” time, which is one of the components of our Daily Five literacy block.
- We are getting to know numbers 0-20 and are practicing counting forward and backward. Soon we will be reading the book 10 Black Dots, by Donald Crews and making our own 20 Black Dots class book. I can't wait to see what the kids come up with!
- We are looking forward to graphing our birthdays by season and analyzing the data.
- During Morning Meeting we have learned different ways to greet friends and have learned some fun activities to start the day off in a fun and cooperative way. Be sure to ask your child which activity they enjoyed most. One of my favorites is Tap, Tap.
